Steve is a registered pharmacist with a Pharmacy degree, an MBA and a Master’s degree in Pharmacology. He is a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), and an RPS Faculty Fellow. He is the regional pharmacist for NHSE and NHSI across the South of England so works strategically in all aspects of medicines optimisation, having gained experience in local, regional and national pharmacy leadership. 

Prior to his appointment he was Director of Pharmacy at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust for 20 years, and has broad experience in clinical and technical acute pharmacy services.  Alongside his trust role he was also the regional SHA acute pharmacy services lead from 2000-2013, and more recently was leading local AHSN and STP medicines optimisation workstreams.  

At the strategic level he has chaired the NICE Patient Access Scheme Liaison Unit Expert Panel since it commenced in 2009, is a member of the Medicines Optimisation Clinical Reference Group and national High Cost Drug Steering Group, and has led medication safety collaborative work both regionally and nationally.  He is a Health Foundation / (NHSI) Q member. His current role includes a focus on the development of the South Regional Medicines Optimisation Committee, enabling delivery of priorities of the Medicines Value Programme, and improving medication safety across the South of England.
